best route to get np? I don't have a bachelor's yet.

Specialties NP

Published

Hi!

I am struggling with deciding whether to spend this yr finishing bsn prerequisites and applying to nursing programs, and then to an msn program for my np, or finishing a bachelor's in business or science, and then applying to an accelerated bsn with direct entry to an msn. Both would take about 5 years (I have two yrs of college done). Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!

I would go with the BSN if I was in your place. If you want to take extra science classes to round out your degree, go for it. At least this way you have a workable degree and can work part time while you pursue your master's degree. You want have to be a starving student for another two years. And some hospitals will even pay for you to pursue higher education.

If you're this early in the game and already know that you want to be an advance practice nurse.....why not medical school? Still get a nursing BSN but take the extra science classes and apply to med school. That's what I would do if I had it to do over again.
