Hi all! I am interested in attending a school in New York with an accelerated nursing program, after I graduate from my Bachelors at the end of the year. I am doing all of my research now and trying to take care of all the prerequisites before I graduate. I will be graduating with roughly a 3.1 gpa, and I do volunteer at my local hospital. What else can I do to better my chances of getting into the programs at SUNY Downstate, Columbia, NYU, Stonybrook or PACE? I will be applying in the fall and also wanted to know if anyone who graduated from these schools has any feedback or advice. THANK YOU!!

wow i'm surprised that nobody replied to your message. I went to stonybrook's accelerated prog. It's a great program, one of the top schools w/ low tuition. The min. gpa is 2.8. If you have great recommendations and a personal statement, you'll most likely get in. But just to let you know that it's VERY competitive.

You could try Hunter College (CUNY), which would be way cheaper than any school mentioned but I'm sure it's very VERY competitive - they admit through overall GPA and scorse on the NLN test.

When I was applying for nursing schools, I asked hunter if I could apply after getting my 1st B.S. from another college. Apparently they told me that they only accept their own undergrad students for their nursing program.
Not sure if this is still true but OP, you can call their nursing dept. :)
in my opinion, any accelerated program is fine...we all learn the same material. It's really up to YOU to make the best of your education. NYU has a great program but expensive. Stony Brook has a great rep also.

That is true, they do not accept direct transfer students. You have to transfer to the school and do a semester there before you can apply for nursing.

Also looking for the best 2nd degree program for BSN. Looks like those are the only options. I am interested in the SUNY system because the Columbia program is a master's program. It seems like the private schools will just be really expensive especially since I will still have a boatload of educational debt to pay off!!
anybody know anything about the differences between SUNY Downstate and SUNY Stony Brook's programs?

Did they change this rule because they updated their website and there's nothing listed about being at the school a semester before applying? I was going to go see one of their advisement counselors but I know last spring that rule was still in place.
