Anyone have any suggestions for a job to work before or while in nursing school to improve your chances after graduation of getting a job as a nurse?
For examply i have been a nurse aid(been a while) a phlebotomist with the red cross and am currently working as a pharmacy tech. Hoping my exp will help me look a little better once i finish LPN school and start looking for a job.

Look for a nurse extern or nurse tech job at your local hospitals. I am currently working as one and they pay for the rest of my education and then place me with a job after school. I pay back the loan in hours worked. Also, as a tech you work to your ability as a nursing student so you get to exercise your skills. They also allow me to schedule my own hours during school up to 20 hrs and work full time during break. If they cannot place me with a job after school then I do not owe them back the tuition. Even if your hospitals don't have a position if you call and ask it might interest them in starting a program like that.

Well, jobs in the health field goes without saying whether its LPN, CNA, medical assistant, patient care tech, phlebotomist, or what have you is always a plus. But, for those who don't have the education or experience to do even those jobs can look elsewhere too. Service jobs, customer service, hospitality, retail, waiter/waitress, bartender. Your focus will be on the customer and people skills which is excellent for nursing.
As far as jobs after graduation, I'd say its networking, your connections, and luck? Klausybear, you already have a great head start having worked in all those areas. If you're LPN school has some kind of employment assistance, take advantage of that. When you do your clinical externship you senior year, you might have a good chance being placed there if you enjoyed it. Start applying early, before you graduate. Get your name out there and make those contacts with the hiring managers. Best of luck to you.
