who believes persistence is key?

I applied to a position I really very badly want. Didn't make it past the phone interview. (And if I did they sure do take a while to get in touch so I'm guessing not)

It's been about a month since the phone interview, the old postings aren't up anymore so I'm assuming they hired for them already and I wasn't selected. But a new position on the unit popped up.

I'm going to apply! I'm not giving up til I get in hehe.... so does anyone else believe persistence is key? Is applying again enough persistence or should I follow up with the recruiter I previously phon interviewed with? Email NM? I'm nervous about that one ...maybe if it were a unit I didn't care about as much but I'd hate to ruin my chances at the only and only specialty of its kind that exists in this whole state if by chance that particular NM didn't like strange applicants to directly contact them.... ha.

I think that if you inquire as to how you may improve your chances for the next time, your odds will improve dramatically over time.

To keep doing the same thing without input, after an unsuccessful attempt, is to invite frustration.

Talk to them. Do you need to take a class? Do you need to brush up on your interview skills? Do you need a certain amount of experience in the area in question? How would they recommend you obtain this experience? ~ and so forth.

I would follow up with the recruiter. They might be able to give you some very sage advice.

Hey, sorry to hear that. From what I've experienced, the initial phone interview is basically a screening interview to make sure that you have all of the qualifications necessary for the position before they interview you in person. I would just double check the minimum requirements to apply such as experience and schooling, as this may be the reason for not making it past the phone interview. Not always the case, just a thought.

I've been trying to find a job for 3 years. So hundreds of applications to the same hospitals, same departments over and over again. It was always hit or miss. No department ever interviewed me twice. I had gone to a hiring event for one hospital and half of the floor managers knew me by name... Still no interview calls after that. Sometimes it works but don't put all your hope into that one floor.

I just really want this floor ...it's kind of why I agreed to move to this state hundreds of miles from home ...I wouldn't have if they didn't have a NICU. Looks like I'll just have to get more experience ...and if I don't get it within a few years my plan is to move anywhere in the country that does hire me into their NICU. I want to do travel nursing as it is so I don't mind moving, and yes, I want a NICU position that bad.

Amb218: for whatever reason the positions posted on this hospital's site doesn't tell any specific qualifications! None of them specify, they all just say something along the lines of "depends on unit" or something. If I had known they had specific qualifications I'd know what I need to achieve to get an interview.
