Before I begin...

Nurses Career Support

Published

Good afternoon everyone. I hope you are doing well.

I'm a 40 year old guy in Texas who needs a career change. After a lot of thinking and praying I have decided that Pediatric Medicine is where I am supposed to be, more specifically a nurse in a PICU type of environment.

I have been supporting my family (wife and 2 sons) as a supervisor in a dispatch office for a cable company. This is a FAR cry from nursing, which means zero experience.

Obviously one option for me is to continue what I'm doing and go to school, but that's not what I want to do.

Is there something I can do to get my foot in the door somewhere to start gaining knowledge and experience while supporting my family and going to school?

My first thought is some sort of back office position at Cooks Children's hospital (or something similar), but even there I have no idea where to start.

I apologize for the scatterbrained post, but I don't even know where to begin.

Help?

There are some other options that would put you into more of a clinical role such as certified nursing assistant, patient care assistant, unit clerk, and other positions that do not require a license. Take a look at the website job postings and see what the required qualifications are for some of the jobs.
