Becoming a nurse in another state

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi, my husband and I (with our six year old and eight month old)want to move to California after I get my RN. We've been in Indiana all of our lives and we're looking for a change in scenery. I know that the cost of living is higher in California...so much so that I'm worried if a nice house can be attainable on a nurse's salary? Are salaries in California high to make up for the high cost of living? Is nursing different there? Plus, my husband works at a steel mill and makes pretty good money. As much advice as I can get would be great. Thank you!

Not aware of any steel mills in CA. Manufacturing types used to get work at an automotive factory or two in the Fremont CA area, but you need to be related to a Deity in order to get hired into any of those jobs, if they even exist any longer. As for your questions about housing and Nursing Jobs, you can find plenty of posts regarding both on this site. With two children to support, I would be very organized and proactive about savings and a lined up job or two before just throwing in the towel and loading up the family car for a road trip to CA.
