Becoming a Nurse Anesthetist [CRNA]

Published

Hi,

I am from the UK and looking into nursing as a career - I wondered whether it would be possible to do the following:

1. Qualify as an Adult Nurse in the UK and gain experience in a hospital setting for a couple of years,

2. Obtain employment in the USA as an RN

3. If residency is acquired, then train to become a Nurse Anesthetist

A CRNA looks quite appealing as it seems quite autonomous and specialised work. Of course, we have no such thing here in the UK as Physicians have kept this for themselves. I have been in touch with BARNA and also seen the AANA website but any direct advice from someone on this forum will be highly appreciated!

With thanks,

Adam.

I couldn't tell you about the USA but it is possible to become a Nurse Anesthetist in the UK.

Have a look at the BARNA website (British Anaesthetic and Recovery Nurses Association).
