anyone became an emt while attending nursing school or while waiting to get into clinicals? i'm thinking about becoming an emt this summer to get some med experience for nursing and just to do it. i've always wanted to do it, but picked nursing as a career instead. i think it would help a little in some ways.

I spent 5 years as a EMT-P before going off to nursing school. I worked PT during school and my boss was very good about me working around my school schedule. It was very good experience and helped alot since I was in contact with nursing alot and saw what they had to deal with. It sure can't hurt to have this experience.

Specializes in none.

Where I live, if your employed emt-b's are usually paired with a paramedic in the ambulance. There are no emt-i's in louisiana. They both go to the calls whether it be a transport or wreck or whatever else. I also thought about just doing the certified first responder, but I would like to make a little money while in school. The pay is horrible especially if it is your career.
