Becoming certified while on prn status?

Can an RN become certified (Med-Surg Certification) while on prn work status at workplace?

I went from part time to prn status at work, to be a full time caregiver to my spouse.

I was just getting ready to start the paperwork at my job to start the study for the certification when I had to go prn 11 months ago.

You can as long as you accrue the required experience. From what I recall several years ago, it was 2000 hours over 2 years. It may have changed so check for the most recent requirements.
