Hi, I am new. I am interested in becoming an ADN-RN or a diploma RN. I would like to know what schools/Hosptial pgms are in the best in the area(BR and surrounding). Basically can anyone give me a list of the pros and cons of the nursing pgms in the area? Which pgms/schools produce the best nurses IYO in the BR area?
Thank you!

Hi Butterfly23, welcome to allnurses. I'm not sure of the pros and cons of the nursing schools available in Baton Rouge but I can provide you with a list.
Baton Rouge General Midcity offers a diploma program.
Southern University offers a BSN program.
Southeastern University offers a BSN program.
Our Lady of the Lake offers an ASN program.
I'm not sure about LSU.
I just finished my first semester at Our lady of the Lake and really like the instructors and classes here. Hope this helps you in making your decision.
Thanks Marijane! I appreciate the info. How hard is it to get into OLOL Nursing prgm. I know you must have a great GPA on pre reqs. What did you do that set you apart in your application, If I may ask?
How many ppl apply to OLOL Nursing each enrolling period? Only 100 make it, right? TIA.

Baton Rouge Community College has a brand new program...check on it....
That's true, I forgot about that.
Butterfly23, to answer your question, my GPA wasn't that great when I applied. I believe it was the essay part that helped me out. I did alot of volunteering and mentioned that on the application. Not sure how many people applied but OLOL accepts 100 students.

Don't do Southern with all it's problems! You don't want to invest in a place that has so many problems. I know too many people who either went to southern or goes there now and they had problems with the exit test the school of nursing adminsters. They radomly decide what the passing scores will be instead of a set passing score, so one may pass with a lower score one semester and another fail with a higher score the next. The school is also on probation and may not be able to accept students in the fall anyway. BEWARE!!
Thanks for the heads up on southern. I think I'll steer clear of that one!
