I graduated from the Basic Option (2yr option) May 05. I found it really challenging, though I performed well. The accelerated program looks like madness to me.....I hope you don't have a family or a part time job, though i know students who made it with both. Expect to study continuosly, and expect to lose out on some opportunities just because of the shortened time frame.

I loved being at Barry and think I got a first-rate education. If hard work doesn't scare you off....go for it....and use all the support from friends and family you can get.

:)

Well I am doing the accelerated option. I am scared but at the same time excited. I am starting to get all my supplies together such as my stethoscope, and uniforms/shoes so if you have any suggestions I would gladly accept them. How did you do in the two- year option? Everyone has told me that the AOP is hard but I looked at the program schedule and only the first summer semester is different from the 2-year option so I told myself I could bust my butt and not sleep for a semester :chuckle and then I can graduate in one year instead of 2. Don't worry I know its hard the whole time!!!! So any adice on what I should start working on? I know my first class is health assessment so anyt particular book I should get?

i can give you some different type of positive news about Barry. I had the pleasure of hiring many Barry Grads, both nursing and therapy and they were terrific!

thank you very much. I really appreciate it. Im starting to feel the anxiety and im only starting in January. I can only imagine what im going to feel like in December or one week before school starts. Ill probably look like a walking zombie. :) Im seriously thinking about quitting work one month before so I can have a small vacation before school starts.

Hello, I was just recently accepted into Barry's Accelerated Nursing Program for Jan. of 2007. Is anyone else out there too? If anyone has taken this program, do you have any advice for a new student to-be? What are your classroom and clinical schedules like? What hospitals can you pick from (or is it chosen for you) for clinicals? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

I am finishing my 1st semester in the AO program. This semester was not too bad but it does require alot of studying. I hear they are changing the program for the incoming class for AO 2007 so im not sure as to how it will be structures. The AO advisor is Cris Steffey...just contact her and she'll help you. Shes pretty hard to get a hold of though because she is also an instructor. I wish you luck with everything. I LOVE barry. Its a great school and im sure you will love it too

Hi Nathalie,

I'm trying to get a feel for what the AO program is really like. In other words, what is your school schedule like? HOw is the clinical part of it setp? I live in the Kendall part of Miami and I'm afraid that I'll get stuck having to do my clinicals up in Broward county. Can we pick from a list of clinical sites? Any help would be greatly appreciated! ANd I already met with Christie Steffey. She was really nice and insightful. Hope to hear from you soon!

Well Im about to start clinicals next month. They have a list and you list your 3 top choices and that is how ots determined. You dont always get your #1 choice but they try. They are pretty nice over there. As for mu schedule....ITS VERY BUSY. Get all the things you want done now!!!!!! Talk to me again in 1 month and I will tell you how im holding up LOL!!!!!
