Banner Medical Center Tucson

Published

I am currently halfway through an accelerated BSN program and am considering moving to Tucson. Any chance there are any nurses on this forum that currently work in the hospital? If so I would love the chance to email and ask some questions since I'm not sure a forum is the venue to do it.

Basically, I have general questions on your opinion of the hospital itself and the different units. Wage and benefits are nice but mostly I really just want to find a great unit to work for as my first job. I got lucky enough to work as a CNA on an incredible surgical oncology floor. The nurses blew my mind and inspired me to become a nurse over a PA. Unfortunately, my clinical experience has shown me a different side of nursing that isn't as positive. I know how important working with a good team can be and to become a better nurse I need to find a place where I can learn and model my care after exceptional nurses. Maybe a lot to ask for my first job.

Well hope to hear from someone. Thanks for taking the time to read this post!

Hi David! I worked at Banner University Medical Center - Tucson before it was bought out by the Banner system - when it was 'University of Arizona Medical Center' (UAMC). UAMC was the most wonderful hospital with great ICUs to work in. The best floor with the greatest people to work with was the MICU. Banner has taken its toll on the hospital and from what I hear, it's definitely not the same hospital anymore, but still the best hospital in Tucson - but that isn't really saying much either. Anyway, I do know that the Director of all 3 of the ICUs is HUGE on hiring new grads, so you may want to look into seeking an ICU job there. Good Luck!
