Banner Good Sam surprise

Published

Hey everyone,

I am super upset about what I just had happen to me at Banner good sam.I am new to this forum and would appreciate other people's thoughts. I was supposed to start a 13wk contract in the er this past monday.I had a week here in phoenix to get settled and told by my travel company and the manager I interviewed with that I would have to complete online mandatories and would be compensated for it and would have to take a basic EKG and med test during orientation.Okay so far no big deal.I arrived to orientation to not even get a "welcome" or "good morning" at 645am.The first thing they requested was our credentials and then proceeded to hand out the tests. At this point we were told we had to pass w/80% or "thats it".Everyones jaw hit the ground.I dont know about the rest of you but I have not had to deal with calculating drip factors and rates since school and most nurses I know roll there eyes at the thought.Anyway, within 15min after the tests, one woman(traveler) collected her belongings and said goodbye. We all stared at each other and could not believe they cancelled her contract due to not passing the med test.We were never informed about "pass or your terminated" policy.Anyway when my turn came I was asked if I could see why I got half of an answer wrong on 2 drip rate problems and of course I couldn't at that point.I told the nurse that it was intimidating that she was hovering over me like that but I wanted to know where I was wrong.Funny that she had to flip to her spelled out answer sheet and when questioned again had to think about it herself.:idea:She then proceeded to tell me that she could not allow me to retake the med test in good conscience and how if I was going to the er I would have to be good under pressure. EXCUSE ME, I think I do great under pressure when it comes to my job as an er nurse. She was totally patronizing and hurtful. She said "what if the power goes out??" Well, last I knew a nurse is never alone in an er w/no resources and pumps DO work off batteries!!Anyway I feel totally railroaded and think I should recieve some compensation for all this.I did relocate from RI to AZ and am now jobless. Most people I told this story to think that the hospital hired too many travelers and this is how they dispose of them. This is just poor practice. Some magnet hospital.I was trained and worked at a magnet hospital for a few years.Sorry to ramble but any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Bellaweez, so sorry to hear about 'road trip'. Did you happen to read the 'similar threads toward the bottom of your post. Seems you are not alone. Hope you will find work , Phoenix is nice this time of year?

Thanks Iriskkerry!! Those threads were helpful. And yes phoenix is gorgeous this time of year.It has however been hotter lately than usual for this time-90's, but is supposed to cool down some soon.

WOW- I almost took an assignment in the ER at Banner Good Samaritan this past week- glad I didn't! I'm going to San Diego instead. Don't know if they're still looking for travelers or not, but as of a week ago, Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix was hiring travelers for the ER- you could check with them.... Good luck!
