Dear All,

I wonder if any of you could help.

I have been offered an interview for a Band 7 (G Grade) Ward Manager for a continuing care home.

As part of the interview I am required to give a presentation and the question is:

''How would you demonstrate that the service provided at the home meets Outcome 2, Consent to care and Treatment of CQC's Essential Standards of Quality and Safety?''

This is my first presentation, I suffer with general anxiety anyway, and this is also my first Band 7 position... ANY advice would really be very gratful! :nailbiting:

Well done on being offered an interview! For a presentation on this topic I would be consulting the CQC guidance (You may need to bring in deprivation of liberty, MCA, MHA etc. etc.) and I would be looking at current issues ie: The Francis Report etc.

I would start my presentation by defining consent from a number of sources (CQC, NMC, GMC etc.) and then move on to the legal aspects of patients giving consent (Verbally, in writing or example simply putting their hand out so they can have their BP taken ) explain in the presentation how consent is deemed to be valid in the eyes of the law. Go on to how you would train/teach staff about gaining consent for treatments/investigations, undertake audits on how the training is going, surveying residents, and writing policies. The big thing for this presentation is explaining what you would do if a patient lacked capacity (always presume patient has capacity) and look at best interests decisions. Say that you would expect that staff would be very well versed at documentng in the notes that consent was gained for all procedures but especially significant procedures. You should also demonstrate that the patient has a right to refuse treatment/investigations but you would expect your nurses to document this refusal in medical notes etc.

Hope this helps!!! GOOD LUCK!

PS dont forget clinical governance etc,. the usual stuff that i forgot to mention.
