  1. Hi SilverDragon102, Funnily enough a friend of mine who took the NCLEX exam a few years ago said the same. I'm defiantly going to need to start reading Saunders again and this time check my answers properly (whoops!). If you don't mind me asking, are you currently practising in the US and if so how did you find the transition? I've just been reading something about visa retrogression! My goodness… is there really a long wait for a visa and does this mean hospitals are no longer employing from the UK? Its funny, I'm pretty sure a the RCN magazine was advertising back-to-back for US post a few years ago, and come to think of it I've not seen any adverts for a while
  2. Hello, I'm also a UK nurse! I sat the NCLEX-RN yesterday. I do know why I checked the BON website this afternoon and found I too have failed! I've been using the Kaplan and Saunders book (albeit rather sporadically!). I have now decided to return to the books and I am also considering the online Kaplan course.
  3. Hi! Thank you for your response I sat the NCLEX-RN exam today and it certainly isn't like any exam I've sat before. With any luck I'll pass! If not its back to the books again! Ive decided to carry on with my degree programme here in the UK. Assuming I pass the NCLEX and my degree, do you think it would be worth while pursing an online American BSN-MSN course? Can that be done? Many thanks, Shaun.
  4. Hi Guys, I really need some help and advice. Firstly, let me apologise for the questions! No doubt someone somewhere has already asked this.. 1) I am a UK trained RN. I acquired my adult nursing diploma (DipHE) in 2006 and the board of nursing (AZ) have now received and reviewed my transcripts and told me to apply and pay for Pearson Vue. So, assuming I'm fortunate and get the ATT where do I go next? What are the best GENUINE NCLEX-RN pre-exam courses for nurses trained overseas? I have 10yrs experience but something tells me this will mean nothing! 2) I am currently undertaking my top-up degree (Diploma to Degree) which I should have finished by end of next year. Its emergency specific and not just a BSN in nursing. Will this matter and will I need to ask CGFNS to re-evaluate my credentials again in order to state BSN on future applications? Any additional help or advice would be gratefully appreciated
  5. Dear All, I wonder if any of you could help. I have been offered an interview for a Band 7 (G Grade) Ward Manager for a continuing care home. As part of the interview I am required to give a presentation and the question is: ''How would you demonstrate that the service provided at the home meets Outcome 2, Consent to care and Treatment of CQC's Essential Standards of Quality and Safety?'' This is my first presentation, I suffer with general anxiety anyway, and this is also my first Band 7 position... ANY advice would really be very gratful!
  6. hi suzan and silverdragon, i am a british trained rn and i’ve been doing a lot of research in to moving to the us as a rn. a few years ago i filed directly to the california bon who said i lacked specific clinical and lecture hours but i never actually received this letter, and the woman who dealt with my case was rude enough at best and now she’s moved on… i’ve been informed by my agency that the ca bon will not even look at our application without a valid ssn as is the case with most us bon’s these days (i’ve just noticed that vermont is the latest addition) – or so i am told! i have failed the cgfns twice and have no realised i don’t need the cgfns exam! i am now in ‘limbo’ as to whether or not to re-sub my application to cgfns for a ces or professional report as i now looking to move arizona. i’m sure you get loads of e-mails and a lot of people asking the same questions…. but may i ask you a few if you have the time? 1. the arizona bon says a ‘affidavit for us ssn’ does that apply to foreign educated nurses? 2. what is a ‘recession’ and does that seriously affect uk nurses? if so, how long could i wait? 3. my agency has advised me to move out of my speciality and move into er as they say that er nurses are most looked after. – is that true? 4. if arizona does accept my transcripts does that mean i can ‘endorse’ to california once i have my nclex (or will they still make me to extra hours still?) 5. if i need to make-up hours where can i complete these in the uk? the only ‘overseas’ courses for nurses in the uk was in brighton nut this has now dissolved. unlike some commenters who have replied to some of your posts i can assure you people like me really appreciate your input to theses forums! thank you so much in advance, and any information, advice, or pointers would be gratefully received. kind regards, shaun.
  7. I am on placement in a unit that looks after patients with respiratory and endocrinology abnormalities. there are (if you're lucky) 2 trained nurses (RGNs) and 1-2 Health/care assistances looking after 31 patients. I am interested to find out if there is a legal framework that states how many nurses are needed for said amount of patients. shaun
  8. Being a male in a predominantly female work environment is cool. I am glad that I took up nursing. As a male I cannot say that I have ever faced problems on the ward or at university. There is however sometimes problems with the patients. Some old ladies don't like men to look after them... well that's fine! Saves me doing it and I can concentrate on something else. Shaun
