Balancing Act

Hello Everybody,

I just started nursing school in San Diego and I had a few questions. I don't know if any of you had problems with financial aide when you were in school but honestly this has been the most stressful part about nursing school. Studying is the easy part, its finding the money to go to school that's the hard part. I'm honestly really scared about paying back my loans, I'm practically taking out 90,000 for my R.N and am stressed that I'm going to be paying back 1,000 each month for the next 15 years! Do you guys know any places to get loans out there that aren't at a 12% interest rate? Also, another thing I'm having trouble with is balancing my personal life with school. Everybody told me that they wouldn't be mad if I didn't spend as much time with them but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I feel like everyday someone's getting mad at me because I'm not spending as much time with them, especially my boyfriend and my best friend. They both fight over what little free time I have and give me a guilt trip for hanging out with the other one. Help?! How do I balance?????

Stafford loans and unsubsidized stafford loans are only 6.8% and start out @$9500 that you can borrow year 1 (as an independent), $10,500 year 2....etc.

Honestly.....I personally do not understand why anyone would borrow $90K for an RN. Here in FL (yes, I know it has the lowest in-state tuition in the country...), the ASN-RN program runs about $8K tuition, books, fees and equipment. Once an RN, one can work at a 'needy' hospital and get that paid by the state of FL. Later, you can use Educational assistance from the hospital to pay for a BSN.

For $90K you could almost pay for med school!

Also.....I will tell you what I have told my own children who thought their SO and friends were so very important....

(1) They won't pay your bills.

(2) When you are in trouble, they won't be there to help (but your family will)

(3) Five years after you graduate you won't even know where they live! You won't remember the names of more than half of your classmates.

Right now setting up YOUR future is your highest priority. If THEY don't get it then they AREN'T your friends!!!!!
