Argh. I missed two nights of work last week due to a short hospital stay, and tonight is my first night back. It is going horribly! The highlights:- Dislodged pts g/t. entirely my fault because I didnt secure it with tape like I normally do.
- Leaked formula on mom when the med port on his extension opened up by accident while I was getting him settled in her lap.
- Unable to calm my pt, resulting in mom staying up until almost 1 and then waking up again at 5 to soothe him.
Feeling like a very incompetent and useless nurse tonight.
Sorry you're having a bad night. Just know that these things have happened to all of us, and it will pass. It's frustrating, but every time something goes wrong, It makes you reflect, and you're more prepared the next time.
Oh I've had the joy of looking away for a split second and having my patient hand me his Gtube completely detached. It became a habit of his for awhile until mom managed to keep her cool when it happened. When he no longer got that attention he stopped doing it. But you'll feel like crap every time. Luckily it only happened on my shift once or twice.
You'll get your groove back
