Ok.. this is gonna be a major whine fest, so don't read if you don't want to hear a bunch of whining :)
Today I worked a PD (extra shift) in which I get paid when I leave, it is also at $35/hr.. This was money I was gonna use to buy some new clothes, scrapbooking stuff etc... On the PD I pretty much say if I want to stay on my floor (5w) only or if I will go where needed.. I only want to work MY floor... I get to work everything is good, I have 5patients, so not too bad... Well about 10am they call and say we are overstaffed and they want me to go finish my PD on 4C, I said well I don't want too.. She said they were really short handed, and I knew if I didn't go, I would have to wait for a partial check to be cut... So I said sure I will go... I get over there and there is 1 RN and 2 LPNs, I take one of the LPNs place (keep in mind I am a RN)... They had it split where the LPNs each had 8 and the RN did IV stuff and followed on them, she had 3 that she did everything for... I get assigned 9 patients!!!! The other RN only had 3, plus she had a LPN doing all her meds, so I had to do all my stuff, while she sat around... I make it through the day thinking WOW I get to take home $300 dollars today.. I go to pick up my check and they didn't have it!!! I want to cry, I want to kill someone, I want to quit.. I'm so upset right now.. I could have left this morning at 10, if I knew I didn't hvae a check... They said it would be "sometime" this week.. You know, I will have that check in my hand by noon or I will not do anymore extra shifts for them...
You don't treat your employees like crap and expect them to just take it...
Ok... Sorry about that :)

I am considering reporting my employer to the state wage and hour division for not paying me for a shift worked in August. First they shorted my check, then they forgot to pay me, then they offered me 1/4 of what they owe me. I gave them back the 1/4 and told them I needed the full amount. Still waiting.....it's October 22 now.
I have also had paychecks take up to 10 days to clear the bank and just got something weird in my account from another paycheck.
It is against the law and they are subject to fines for not paying employees timely. If you get paid twice per month or every 2 weeks, they are required to pay you the full amount owed within 14 days of the end of your pay period with a real paycheck and paystub - period.
You can't be paid on Monday instead of Saturday or 4 days late or after 2 p.m., etc. The pay is due to you on time.
Each state is different. I called Federal Wage and Hour and they told me that for my state, the state will "go after them". Federal Wage and Hour was the quickest and most knowledgeable hotline to ask. There is a form to fill out and your mail or fax it in. (and you will be blacklisted for the rest of your life)
A couple of years ago, a big error was made in my paycheck and I worked agency. I asked for a real paycheck with a real paystub. I was waiting for the paystub to finish a refinance. The reply was "Do you have financial problems or something? Why do you want this?". I did not report them. I did not get a paystub in time to refinance.
How's that for a ranting, whining, written, tantrum?
About the bad day at work -- there are a lot of opportunities out there for nurses right now.
