Back Rubs

Just curious, do nurses give patients back rubs any longer?

That was one of my favorite therapeutic interventions 'back-in-the day'. That was before DRGS and short stays, when a patient could spend days or weeks on hard, vinyl covered mattresses and backs got sore.

Patients really responded to a good rub and were so grateful for it.

Now that was really funny kmoonshine! Who said hyster???? OK it was. And Dilaudid is good stuff by the way. One of my co-workers paid for a real massage from the massage therapist who provides the service to the new moms. She has a massage therapy room right there on maternity. Except after my shower I hopped into my clean bed to get mine. Ahhhhhhh! I wasn't going to mention that, but I had to. --Princess of all princesses--

My instructor currently is very old school but at the same time very, very wise. We are required to do back rubs (well, at least ask our patient) and she will ask the patients to make sure we did.

I don't mind giving them because afterwards that patient will typically be at your command and will do whatever you need them to.
