Bachelors Degree RN 1st job

Specializes in med/surg, critical care, SNF.

I have a question, needing some advice, I am an old RN, 40 years, my son just graduated in December from a BSN program. He is currently employed as a CNA for the last 3 years, just passed his NCLEX and is filling out hospital applications. Just today his SNF facility offered him a position there as an RN that pays far less than hospitals will. I say it is in his best interest not to work as an RN there. He has barely started his job search, he graduated Magna Cum Laude and did student volunteering and his clinicals at the hospital he wants to work at. I feel they will not be interested in hiring him if he accepts a first position at a SNF just barely out of school. We live in a large metropolitan area with plenty of hospitals that will hire him and I feel he will be doing himself an inservice by accepting a job at his SNF especially this soon out of school. Any thoughts on this from others who may have been in similar situations?

I think he should try to find a job as a RN in an acute care hospital so he can get his golden year of experience and be able to transfer wherever he wants. That being said, its hard for us new grads to find a job anywhere.
