Ineffective nurse manager

Nurses General Nursing

I found a great job with a super nurse manager at a clinic, which was a branch of a bigger entity that I had previously worked at, 9 months ago. I love my patient population and my co-workers so I really believed I found my lifetime job. Another nurse mngr in the clinic seems to make it her mission to argue and debate issues rather than work through them as a team and as a result my nurse mngr left her position and I've had two interim nurse managers in this short time. The clinic changed some departments around and now I ended up with this nurse manager.

I went from nurse managers who would help get answers/solutions for patient problems/processes that come up in the course of a day to a nurse mngr that will not get back to me.

I am an RN that oversees a department that is driven by outdated protocols rather than providers and many of my inquiries are about what to do about a specific outdated protocol that needs to be addressed for the neeeds and/or safety of my patient population.

There has been so much staff turnover that nursing directors are now coming once a week to figure out why our clinic can't keep nurses or nurse mngrs when so many staff know that it's this particular nurse mngr but they're afraid of her backlash so no one will speak up.

This nurse mngr is impossible to work with and even the nurse openings for the Dept's she oversees don't get filled because she has such a bad reputation as a mngr.

I have tried killing her with kindness. I've tried being assertive. I've tried pleading with her for the answers explaining in great detail why I need my questions answered and still the only time she seems to answer anything is to be negative or to tell me no to learning opportunities.

I'm just crushed that I cannot find a solution on how to deal with this woman and how a job I loved has turned into a job I dread going to.

She has only worked for the establishment for 3 years. She was walked out of her hospital job before this and I guess I just don't understand how she keeps her position as I watch this clinic lose so many caring nurses because she won't do her job.

Anyone know how to deal with a difficult manager?
