Hi! I live close to Glen Dale. I'm still working on my pre-reqs (should be done by this fall ) & I'm still trying to figure out where I should go. Are you interested in attending a university or community college?

You have several 2yr and 4yr school options in the DC Metro area when it comes to going to nursing school. I live very close to Glenn Dale (Bowie) but go to Howard Community College in Columbia, MD. They have an evening and weekend program. That is one of the main reasons (among others) why I chose the school. Tell us more of what you are looking for in a school. Thank you all for the info. Well, I guess my story is I applied for a program here in Ariozna and I was not accepted. Turns out they were only accepting people who already has a bachelors degree (yeah, that's a whole other topic of frustration). I am not picky where I go, but I would prefer a BSN right off the bat as I want to continue on and get my practitioners license. I was just looking at Howard University and John Hopkins University. Heard anything on John Hopkins? The reason for my move is really my family. Everyone lives on the East Coast (Maryland/Boston) and I miss them. And I LOVE the east, I was born and kinda raised so I miss home. Any suggestions at all I will research!

Definitely read through the posts here under "Maryland" on Johns Hopkins University. JHU has an awesome program and Hopkins is a great teaching hospital. JHU was my first choice until I saw that steep tuition. I have enough student loan debt as it is!!!:chuckle Anyway, Lots of folks have posted feedback on JHU's SON program here on allnurses --.Make sure you sign up for one of JHU's orientation days.

I don't know too much about Howard's program - - -sorry. But I have heard from friends that are RNs that Howard Univ. Hospital does not have the best supportive atmosphere for new nurses. Hope that helps. Don't forget UMD-College Park. If you are going to be living in Glenn Dale, you'll only be 20-25 minutes from the campus.

I wanted to go to Howard when I was in high school but didn't get in. I think it's a blessing in disguise b/c their program isn't that great! And its also a private school like JHU so tuition is higher than a state school. Also I just wanted to say that UMD's nursing program is in Baltimore, not College Park. I heard its a very excellent program, but hard to get into! If your grades are good then I say go for it though :) Bowie State is very close , but I wouldn't recommend you check out their program either (pm if you want more info).

I should put the caveat that UMD-College Park has the Pre-Nursing program if you haven't taken your prereqs for Nursing School. It's a much easier and cheaper commute to College Park starting out than traveling to Baltimore.
