Finally in my last semester!!

I am doing a project for a class and we picked admission requirements for ADN programs in AZ. I'm down here in Tucson, and once I completed the pre-reqs all I had to do was fill out a 1 page application that consisted of my name, address, and program of interest. They don't care about any experience as a CNA or tech, GPA, no interview, no tests....

Basically, if you can pass A&P, and basic math, you can get into our program. So we have a huge wait, and a lot of people who are taking seats and failing out. Soo, I was wondering what your admission requirements for NS were.

1. Did you take a pre-nursing exam, need letters of reference, essays?

2. What CC are you at? (or applying to)

3. Did your application ask about CNA/tech experience?

4. Did they offer a point system??

And anything else that you can offer.

Also, how do you guys all feel out there about strict admission requirements vs no admission requirements??? Do you feel your school is too easy on applicants, or just right?

Specializes in Cardiac.

Thanks for responding!

We have a pre-admission exam. In order to be admitted to the program you have to have completed basics like ENG 101-102 and College Algebra. It's also highly recommended to do any other co-requisite classes before you actually get into the program. If you don't you'll end up taking 20 credit hours a semester. (No fun!) You also had to have completed a CNA class, but you didn't have to go take the actual certification test.

2. What CC are you at? (or applying to)?

Yavapai College in Prescott

3. Did your application ask about CNA/tech experience?

Nope. You did have to take a CNA class though.

4. Did they offer a point system??

I'm guessing since I don't know what a point system is, my school doesn't offer it. ;)

And anything else that you can offer.

Pretty good program up here. We do clinicals at the VA and at YRMC (the only hospital up here so far...) The only thing really lacking is pediatric experience. Our admission process is nice because it gives people a real shot of getting into the program. Our retention rate is not 100%, but it's pretty close. We ahve nearly a 100% NCLEX pass rate...so that's saying something :-)

I think it's just right. I couldn't imagine trying for semester after semester just to get into nursing school. My school is pretty encouraging also- it isn't one of those "weed out the weak ones" type of programs. We've had people with all manner of issues and the school has really tried to help them out and encourage them to stick with the program...
