These letters are awesome and inspiring. I have just PASSED my first semester of nursing school, and you are the people that I want to work with. You care, and that means more than anything. I have heard so many horror stories from nurses, and there seems to be more horror circulating than good stories. I want to make a change...I hope that sometime in my career as a nurse, I will only have the amount of patients that I can comfortably handle. I want to have time to sit and talk with them, and to be their good nurse. I have been taught so many ways to therapeutically communicate, and I want to use this. Maybe this just sounds idealistic and I am just being niave, but I want to make a difference, and I am glad that I am not the only one.

Your letters are great!:D

That is what most nurses want, but you will find that it takes a lot more than "wanting" to bring about the necessary major changes in healthcare so that these kinds of things can take place in actual practice.

Meanwhile, what kind of changes would be useful at your nursing school to help create a similar kind of learning environment? Some things that nursing students can do about consistently and meaningfully supporting each other more (not just within small friendship circles). Some things that nurses can help their instructors learn to do for the benefit of all. Etc.
