Average time for new grad to be hired

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello all,

I'm a newbie that graduated from nursing school back in May 2007 and passed my NCLEX in Aug. 2007. Due to personal matter, I didn't start looking until now. I only started applying this past week to 7 hospitals and so far I receive no response from any hospitals. So, I'm just wondering how long should I wait for any hospital to reply. What is the average time frame I should wait for a respond. I'm afraid that no hospital wants NEW GRAD anymore, do you think that's true. When should I start to panic?

Thanx!

Hi,

Do not worry about, I am also in the same boat and applying every where in the nys.I go my license in April 08. So far I got three interviews and next week I will have three interview. I do not know, who will call me for job. Try to apply as many hospital as you can.

Good luck.

Hey Sami,

I didn't apply to winthrop b/c I don't drive-but it seems close to the LIRR-is it? Also, do you know if they're still hiring new grads-the recruiter there really liked me from a job fair but Ididn't pass on my resume b/c of the possible commute?

when does the next orientation start?

Thanks and congrats! PS I feel like such a tard for not applying there now-hope it's not too late

Hi,

Yes, Winthrop can be reachs by LIRR. Actually, LIRR train stop (@ Mineola station) is right next to the hopsital. By the way, LIRR is pretty expensive. If you drive, Winthrop proves FREE parking for all employee. Since I live in Queen (exit 24), it only takes me 30 minutes by car to get there.

I was at the Advance Job Fair last Tuesday and I didn't see the Winthrop recruiter there. Maybe I wasn't paying attention. Yes, the nurse recruiters @ Winthrop are the nicest people I ever met. I think they're still hiring new grad b/c my friend is interviewing with them now. Just email your resume and see what happen.

Well, my orientation starts on June 2 but the interviewing process takes some time b/c you'll see the nurse recruiter first and later the nurse manager. I applied April 17 and didn't get an interview until May 2. So, I don't know if you can make it to the June orientation.

Hey, I'm a NYU Alum too! Class of 2007!

Good luck with your job search!

Hey fellow NYU alum :)-I did the 15 month 2nd degree program,

thanks for the quick reply-what was the interview like? did they ask med/nursing questions to gauge your knowledge?

I spoke with the recruiter at an NYU job fair (yer right, winthrop wasn't at the advance one)

how soon did they contact you for an interview after sending you resume out?

Thanx

You're welcome!

Well, the nurse recruiter tends to ask questions like why nursing, your plan in 5 years, why do you choose med/surg or your specialty, and etc. Just basic easy questions. It's the nurse manager that tends to get critical with questioning. The nurse manager that I saw at oncology ask me critical thinking NCLEX-like questions.

Winthrop responded within a week after I email my resume. So, they're pretty quick in responding but interview appointment takes up to 2 weeks. I'm guessing they're very busy with numerous interview.

Good luck!
