Average grades of Nursing Students (Canada)

Published

I am starting my first year of Nursing at Dal in the fall of 2014. I also recieved a scholarship and need to maintain an average of 80%. I know I must work exceptionally hard, but is this attainable? Do many nursing students have 80+ averages? Any tips or advice for the program? Thank you so much for any imput you can provide.

I average anywhere from 92-98% in each of my nursing classes.

what it comes down to is knowing what to study and how to study it, in essence study smart, quality over quantity.

In your lectures, focus on the material covered, they are covering it for a reason, reinforce it with book readings on the SAME topics if you didn't understand fully what the lecture said. Other then that, just really invest the time to get to know the material. 80 Average seems a bit low for an AVERAGE since its just a few points shy of failing.

There's really no excuse, the material is for SURE manageable (I work 32 hours a week while taking 16 cred hours.) So just remember, put in the time, choose your focus, and eliminate all distractions, and STUDY.

P.S. what also really helps is if you get sheets of computer paper and write down terms ideas definitions and sentences you want to reinforce. The act of writing materializes ideas and concepts in your head, further solidifying cognition and understanding. Try it! You don't have to study what you wrote like a flash card, just simply write down things you feel are important, more then once if you think you have to, it really really does help. Black ink.

Yes 80 percent is reasonable and attainable. Make a study schedule well in advance of all the due dates and revise it as you need to. Any papers you have will be assigned well in advance, so begin a rough outline as soon as you decide on the topic and work on it in small increments. Many of us worked in nursing school while maintaining A averages. Organization and persistence will help you survive. I also never pulled an all nighter. Sleep and exercise got me through the rough periods. Good luck!

What are you smoking, 80% is considered a B+/A- not borderline failing. It's not easy to get an A in a nursing class, thats for sure.

You must be American where grade inflation is rampant.
