Australian nurses registering with NMC post 2013 review

Published

Hi Everyone,

Are there any Aussie nurses here who have successfully registered with the NMC this year under their new regulations?

I'm an Australian nurse who first applied to the NMC over 12 months ago. My registration has been held up with their review earlier in the year, followed by some bad information from one of their staffers, followed by them losing my application and all my details! They've now come back saying the hours of my university degree are not satisfactory. I attended the three year Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Technology, Sydney. I graduated at the end of 2009. At the time of my enrolment my university mandated the most number of clinical hours of any nursing degree in Australia (the reason I chose it). I have since worked full-time in a specialised area for 4 years and undertaken many hospital based education programs but have not returned to university for further study yet.

Both my theory and clinical hours are way under according to the NMC. I've contacted the university and they advise they have filled everything out correctly. Has anyone here come across a similar problem? Any solutions? Is it possible my university is incorrect? Surely I can't be the only Australian nurse currently trying to register with the NMC? Also anyone that's worked for Pulse nursing agency I'd love to hear your experiences.

Any help is very much appreciated!!
