Moving thread to World Nursing section, Nurse Registration forum.
All US states require nurses to be generalist trained with theory and clinical in adults, geriatrics, mental health/psych, pediatrics, and OB/women's health. The NY Dept of Education/board of nursing specifies that the nursing education must be a general nursing education (as opposed to the specialty nursing education (pediatrics, adult, learning disabilities, etc.) offered in the UK and some other countries.
"To meet the professional education requirement for licensure as a registered professional nurse, you must present satisfactory evidence of having received at least a two-year degree or diploma from a program in general professional nursing that is acceptable to the Department." source: NYS Nursing:License Requirements
