This is a follow up to a thread I started a few days ago, but I just wanted to alert everyoen to nursing schools that use exit exams. In order to graduate from the school, you MUST pass the exam with a certain score. If you don't pass, you can't graduate and sit for the NCLEX even if you passed all of your classes. I would personally avoid these schools like the plague. But don't take it from me. Type "HESI exit exam" into the search box and read through all of the horror stories.
I just got back from an info session at a for profit NS today. The head of admissions told us that they have a 100% NCLEX pass rate. Everyone was impressed. BUT when I dug through the NCLEX info on the state BON website, it says that, while the school does have a 100% pass rate, only FOUR people took the NCLEX from that school in 2009. Just FOUR. And each LPN class starts out with 40 students, so you do the math. Do you want to go to a school with a 10% graduation rate? I don't.
I feel bad for everyone there who went "wow" and the like after hearing about the 100% pass rate. They have no idea that it is as phony as a $3 bill. And sadly, most of them will never beome nurses if they go to this school.
Here is the website so you can see for yourself. The school in question is Mildred Elley.
