Just went live on Epic recently. Its been quite a challenge. Local docs had real issues cutting schedules back during break in period so we've had some very long days and some very unhappy staff. For those of you who have used it for a while please give me your opinion. One of our biggest problems seems to be dealing with the lab. Is that the case everywhere or is it a problem we have that can be worked out. Personally Im starting to like it for the most part.

scrubcircrn, I have been using EPIC where I am for a while and LOVE it! I know a larger system near me just went live last month and I'm interested to hear if they are liking it just as much.
"One of our biggest problems seems to be dealing with the lab. Going through 4 screens to chart a bottle of NaCl is too many!

I used EPIC when I worked in Ohio and loved it. All of the patient information was tied into one piece of software. I didn't have to log into 4 different programs to look at CT scans, labs, vitals...etc. I thought it flowed well also, at least the OR portion of it. I moved to the West coast and they use McKesson software out here. Can't believe how much more difficult and un-user friendly it is compared to EPIC. There will be a learning curve at first, but after about 6 months, it should be smooth sailing.

We just upgraded to a new version of Epic and some of the OR screens were a step backwards. But I do love the ability to see the entire record prior to meeting the patient. We are going to physician order entry soon, can't wait no more deciphering their scrawl...
