I am planning on starting a vocational LPN program in August 2009 at the Capital Area School of Practical Nursing in Sprinfield, IL. I took the ATI test in April 2009. If the test you are asking about is called a TEAS test....here is the breakdown info for you: Reading section-40 questions Math section-45 questions Science section-30 questions English section-55 questions. On the math section-we WERE allowed to use the computer's calculator. The test was timed and we had 3.5 hours to finish. It took me about 2.5. Please don't quote me on this, but I think you have to score at least a 54% or above on every section to pass. If you score below 54% on one section you fail the whole test. You may want to find out more info on the pass/fail percent, as I said I wasn't positive.
I didn't find the test to be hugely difficult, but it was a little tedious. Maybe because I am 42 years old and have been out of high school for 25 yrs!! I passed with an 80% total score....GOOD LUCK!!!!

There are ATI exams that need to be taken at the end of each nursing course (not all schools do this). It is a predictor of how well you will do in that section on the NCLEX. I have found the questions to be similar to Saunders NCLEX review and my nursing class exams. If you school doesn’t provide the ATI textbooks for the section you need to test over, I would encourage you to go to ATI’s website and order it. The text is in outline format and covers the highlights of each area. I use it for supplemental reading and the lowest I have scored thus far is a level two. Hope this helps. Good luck
