Athens Tech ADN program

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

I'm looking for opinions on the program at Athens Tech. I have been in contact with them, and it is very affordable, plus I can start my pre-nursing courses there this fall. I missed the application deadline for all the other schools, and will have to wait until spring to start anywhere else. I can't seem to get much first hand info on this school, however, and am just wondering if it is a good program, how hard it is to get into, etc.

Thanks,

Amy

Thanks so much for your reply! I was worried about my gpa- I took the english and college algebra 18 years ago when I was in college the first time. I made a C and a B. This past year I took the three sciences and made all As, so my gpa is a 3.4. I did make a 98 on the nln, so maybe that will help.

Your comments bother me though. I can't believe more than half of your class is gone! Sounds like what I have heard about Georgia Perimeter. Is it mostly because of people failing out?

I have already been accepted at North Georgia for this fall. That is really where I want to go, but Athens is so much cheaper. I don't qualify for financial aid (I already have a BA), so we're paying out of pocket as I go.

If I don't get in at Athens, I won't have to worry about it though!

The GPA that the board of admissions reviews is soley from the 5 classes that are required for admission (Eng 191/Math 191/A&P 1 and 2/Microbiology) All other classes that you have taken are not looked at, at all. I made that mistake the first year I applied and ended up retaking 2 of those 5 classes because I made a B in them. Your NLN score is excellet though! Athens Tech is notorius for losing half or more of their beginning 50. I guess they consider that "normal"; however, I have friends at other local nursing schools and their programs lose 2-3 people out of 60 in 2 YEARS!! If you choose to go to Athens Tech, you must teach yourself and you cannot depend on the instructors to help you if you get in trouble. It has been difficult, and honestly I never studied before this program, but I find myself up late almost every night trying to grasp the info that was so poorly communicated during useless lectures. I hope you choose North Georgia! I have a co-worker who loves it there. I came to Athens Tech for financial reasons, but if I had know the difficulty I would have considered it worth my while to get a private loan and go somewhere else.

Thanks for the info monicabw. I'm definitly going to stick with North Georgia. I have just heard nothing but positive things about NG. Looks like I will start applying for those private loans!
