Assumed knowledge

After 2 weeks of the first semester the problem I am having is all of the "assumed" medical knowledge. It is almost like the teachers have forgotten this is the first semester and some people in the class have never worked in health care. Even the textbooks are written that way ! Is anyone else having this problem and how are you dealing with it ?

My teachers make references to people who are already CNA's or references to diseases that I have never heard of before. I just try to keep up and write down everything that is mentioned. Even side track stuff when we get way off topic. I am glad I am starting off fresh not knowing anything it will help me gain my own understanding of everything. Good Luck!

You jot down stuff that gets mentioned in class that you don't know and when when you get home you look it up in medical dictionaries or on the Internet. When you are reading your textbooks you always keep a medical dictionary at your side and immediately look up terms that you do not know or understand in order to make sense of the reading. Reading tends to go slow at first, but eventually you start to get a better understanding of what is going on. If you do not do this, you will end up lost and behind and may never catch up.
