Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Does anyone have any personal experience with this type of nursing? They use LPNs and Medication Aides......This would be my first nursing position, theyre offering 100% tuition assistance. In addition to this, I would like to work someplace else to get other experience that I probably wont get here. If they decide to hire me, I will take the position because I need a job but..... Please ANY thoughts, ideas, comments, advice.....

I have worked at an AL since April...the ratio is 1 to 39 residents. 8 of them self med. so ...really its easy.... its just ...that I have had to deal with calling 911 because of falls ...I work the second shift.....its ok....but...I am now training at a dr office....I have been giving child imm..shots...etc....doing vitals....I have done strep tests...etc...and I like it a whole lot better....its busy...but its difficult learning the computer system......I am going thru a temp service...this job is suppose to last until Dec.....I just hope I will get hired for good..but in the mean time....I am getting alot of experience...vitals,,,the computer system...testing...they do some of their own blood testing too. I have learned alot in this one week I have been there than I have since I had started at the AL in April.....I just want to work M-F 8-5pm. And I also make 14.00hr. Compared to 16.50 at the AL...but I dont like the hrs...and have no desire to work at an AL 7-3:30 and on weekends...I'll take the cut in pay for that....and I also work my butt off at the Drs office...but its worth having the weekends off!!!!

Thanks for the information. Very useful Sounds like you learn and do alot in the Pediatric Dr's office-thats cool. I have kids so a 9-5 would be great for me too, even though there will be a cut in pay. I guess I could work a sat or sun for and agency to make up for it. LPN's make more in MD, I think $18-20, not sure about DR office. But then again form what I've heard your standard of living in Ohio is lower-houses are definatly cheaper. Do you live in a small town, maybe LPN's so more have more responsibility in offices?

Thanks.

I live in a rural area....small town...so they say 14.00hr is good. I just hope I can get hired on ..for good. At least I am getting the experience...that makes me happy..because alot of drs offices want some experience...and this office didnt have a chance to interview anyone since their other nurse had to pulled to the main office...so they were stuck with me......lol,,,an inexperienced new nurse...but they have been great. And I hope it continues. BECAUSE I AM TRYING SO HARD.!!!

What is the patient to nurse ratio at these type of facilities?

where I had been working it was 1:39
