I am in my first year of an FNP program working in a SICU as a staff nurse but have grown an interest in specializing in dermatology. I am having a lot of trouble locating NP's who are specialized in dermatology to answer some of my question. Through my many searches I have yet to locate a single dermatology NP in Philadelphia. A portion of my graduate school assignment is to interview someone in the field that I'm interested in.
The questions include
the historical development of dermatology np
regulations in PA for derm np practice
what type of setting does the np practice in
What apn role does the nurse assume
what are the nurse's responsibilities
what barriers exist if any, that make it difficult for the nurse to implement the apn role?
What resources are available that assist the nurse to implement the APN role?
I've researched the DNA, ANA, database searches etc. and have even e-mailed representatives of the dna who haven't had a chance to response yet.
I've even travelled an hour for a derm checkup from an np, just to kinda see what is done and she has been kind enough to allow me to shadow her, but unfortunately my assignment is due before I can wait for approval for the shadow date.
any help would be appreciated!!!!!
thanks

I am also very interested in this as well and really don't know where to start. I see that there is a DNP program at USF but that is the only information i have with trying to get formally training about dermatology as a nurse. Lehay as well.
