how often does your unit do assessments/vitals on your stable lady partsl and c-section deliveries and the babies? what does awhonn recommend?

Stable NSVDs once they are admitted to PP from L&D, we do q30min x 3, q4hr x 3, then BID.

Stable sections: q30min x 3, q4h x 48h, then q8 until discharge.

New babies: VS q30min x 3, then if two temps > 97.6, we can bathe. Once temp is above that again after bath, we assess q8hrs. The exception is our late preterm/

At our hospital:

Stable lady partsl deliveries: stat, q15min x 4, q30min x 2, q1hr x 2, q4hr x1, then q12hr. This starts at delivery and we do NOT start over again when they come to the floor... typically they are on their first hourly check when they come to the mother baby floor.

Stable c-section deliveries: stat, q15min x 4, q30min x 2, q1hr x 4, q4hr for 24 hours, then q12hr. We start this AGAIN when they come to the mother baby floor.

Normal newborns: stat, q30min x 4, q1hr x 2, q4hr until infant is 24 hours old, then q8hr. If temp is above 98.0 for 2 hours we can bathe (after 4-6 hours since delivery).

Late-preterm/SGA/IUGR newborns: stat, q30min x4, q1hr x 2, then q4hr through hospital stay.

I'm not sure what the AWHONN guidelines are, but I sure feel like we don't ever leave our new patients alone sometimes! ;)
