ASN student

Hi everyone! I was currently accepted into my community college ASN program. I am planning on getting my BSN while working. Are there certain area's of nursing that I can't go into with an ASN? I really want to join a traveling nurse agency, but I hear it's best to get experience in ICU/ER before joining. Will I be able to work at an ER with an ASN right after nursing school?

Thanks!

More and more hospitals are accepting new grad into specialties now, I've noticed it depends on the area, if you are in an area that produces alot of ADN's and BSN's, then it might be a bit harder, we have no BSN school within a 60 mile radius so an ADN can go anywhere in our hospitals but I hear differently of other areas, best thing to do is talk to the different HR offices or nurse recruiters and get their input and if you aren't currently working now, see if you can get your foot in the door as a tech or clerk in one of the units part time. Good luck in school!
