ASN of BSN?

Nursing Students General Students

I am trying to figure out what I should do. When I started towards a nursing degree I figured that I would go for the AS since it was two years and I could get right back in to working. I found out from my school that it was almost impossibel to get accepted in to the associates program on you r first attemt since there were only 32 spots a year. The BS program accepts 120 new students each year and operates throughout the year; so essentailly, I could finish with my BS only one semester after my AS. (Although there is about a one year wait from the time you are accepted until you can start your classes)

After hearing this, I figured I might as well go for my BS and have been working on my prereq's. I kept my AS aplication on file just incase. Well, today I just got my letter in the mail saying I was accepted into the AS program and I am trying to figure out what to do. (My counselor is booked until August).

My husband thinks that I should decline the AS spot and continue towards my BS since my ultimate goal in MSN. My mother thinks that I should get my AS, and work in a hospital as I do the RN-BS bridge program (which takes about 2 and a half semesters).

I know that I should be happy to have been accepter in the progam (especially on my first attempt, but I feel that it would be unfair to take the spot concidering I will be continuing on.

Anyone with advice. I have until the 16th to make my decision.

Thanks, Heather

If it is only one more semester, and you want to get your MSN anyway, I would go for the BSN. Just my opinion. Good Luck either way. :)

I agree with the above. Good luck!

Did you get accepted into the BSN program? If you haven't, with as hard as it is to get into nursing school, I would take the AS degree. Some universities offer an RN-MSN program, where some of the Bachelor's and Master's credits are shared. That's my goal once I get my RN. I think the sooner the better. Good luck!
