ARNP certification?

Published

I am starting this Jan. in an Adult NP Program. I have 2 gen. questions.

1. Once graduated in the state of Kansas are NP's required to site for certification, I'ver heard both ways?

2. What is the difference between an Acute Care NP and an Adult NP?

Thanks for any assistance.

You will probably get a better response on the NP board. However, the Kansas BON and the Pearson Report both say that you only need to graduate from a BON approved educational and training program.

As far as ANP and ACNP you can look at the NP board here. From the ANCC:

"The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) is a registered nurse prepared in a graduate level acute care nurse practitioner program to provide and manage health care of acutely ill, critically or chronically ill adult patients in a wide range of settings. The ACNP practice includes independent and interdependent decision making; and is directly accountable for clinical judgments. The graduate level preparation expands the ACNP's role to include differential diagnosis and disease management, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to manage acute and critical health problems, participation in and use of research, development and implementation of health policy, leadership, education, case management, and consultation."

"The Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP) is a registered nurse prepared in a graduate level adult nurse practitioner program to provide a full range of health care services on the wellness-illness health care continuum at an advanced level to adults. The ANP practice includes independent and interdependent decision making. The ANP is directly accountable for clinical judgments. The graduate level preparation expands the ANP's role to include differential diagnosis and disease management, participation in and use of research, development and implementation of health policy, leadership, education, case management, and consultation."
