army rotc

i have a question about joining the rotc.... here is a little background:

so my questions are:

can i do the rotc thing even if i'm not a freshman? yes-the mandatory part of rotc is the last two years.

can i go into reserves/national guard out of rotc so that i can pursue my masters? how supportive are they? can i be deployed while in school?

maybe--depends on your contract....but once you are commissioned, you are us gov't property!

supportive depends on who you talk to..

you cannot be deployed while you are a full time student in good standing with the ms (miltary science) program

is anyone on this board an army nurse who has been deployed to iraq? i'm not really too concerned about deployment, but i am curious as to what deployed nurses have experienced or what kind of things they do. sorry-i was a communications officer with a busines degree-nursing is a second career for me.

also, my family is very against me joining. my younger brother went through rotc and was commissioned two years ago and they don't want another kid going. as a parent with two active duty sons, this is understandable.

not to mention my husband isn't at all thrilled with the prospect. has anyone ever dealt with that?

this would be a huge red flag....the army is not just a job, its a way of life. if he isn't 100% on board with this, i'd reconsider. imho, when a decision in made by a married couple, one "no" is all it takes for a veto--on moving, having a baby, buying a house..or going into the military.

thanks for your reply. i'm not entirely too concerned about my husband, to be honest. he supports most of what i do, as far as school and work. i know he will probably not take it well, if i do decide to go the army route, however i'm not one to not do something because someone (and it doesn't matter who) doesn't want me to. i hope that doesn't sound too harsh, i truly love my husband and care what he thinks but i'm a firm believer that it's my life and i have to do what makes me happy. not to mention, he isn't the one paying for my school or loans or finding me a job either. haha

Just know that you will want your husband's support if you go in the military. Speaking from an 11 yr vet. You are going to have to rely on him more than you do as a civilian, especially once you start a family.

Again, I'm not saying that I don't want or need his support and perhaps I came across stronger than I would have liked regarding that. That wasn't really the main focus of my questions. I was just wondering if anyone had dealt with that themselves.
