Army Reserves now or wait?

Published

Hi!!

I'm a soon to be nursing student(fall '07) and i was recently contacted by an Army recruiter. He told me that if i joined the reserves now as a student i would not be deployed(locked in), i would get about $4500 for schooling, and the choice of going active or staying in the reserves when i graduated. Is what he's telling me right? I am intersted in joining the Army or Navy when i graduate and this sounded ideal to me. I am supposed to meet with my recruitor in the morning and would appreciate the feed back!!!

Thanks!!!

Hello,

From what I read and hear, you are being told somewhat correctly.

Please read into if your school is ROTC or if you qualify for the Army Student Nurse candidate program because you will get "MORE" than 4,500. You would be on a delayed entry program and would not be deployed while you are in school. Matter of fact, you wouldn't even be deployed if you failed to pass NCLEX on the first sitting. You would be allowed to sit for it again six month later for a total of two more tries.

If for any reason you were unsuccesful after both tries your contract should be null since your contract is for a Nurse.

Good luck,

Gen

p.s. I am comissioning this morning, as a reserve comission, yet am going in Active Duty upon passing NCLEX/completing OBC and the recomissioning as AD upon arrival at my first duty station.

Thank you so much!!!! Good luck to you too!! Is the Student Nurse Candidate Program AD, Reserve, or both?

I do not know.

Good luck!

However, the Air Force did tell me that they were not taking anyone until Sept 2007 for their Nurse Transition Program, (their new nurse program) so, I wonder if the Army may have met it's quota for the year too.
