Army nursing

Published

Hi Everyone,

This website is great way to get the information. I really love this website. Thank you for everyone that providing information to help fellow nurses.

I graduate in May 2009. I am looking at army nursing. I heard they have wonderful program for new grads. The problem I can get is my weight. I am 5 pounds more than what they are looking for. I am scared to go to the recruiter. I feel they might turn me down b/c of my weight. I never had any physical training other than walking and running. When I tried to push ups it was very hard to do even 1. I don't know what to do. I just want to know if anyone had these problems and over come all these Problems.

Did anyone encounter this kind of problems? What did you do? What is the result?

I really like to join the Army. I really appreciate any of your answers. Thank you.

I'm a nurse in the Army, and I weigh more that the ideal Army weight.

Do not let those measly 5 lbs stop you. If you are "overweight", they will do a body fat test (tape test). You should have no problem passing the body fat since you're only a few lbs over.

Check out http://www.apft.net, they have the body fat calculator right there under their quick links. Just keep in mind that there is separate calcs for males and females.

A tip for the tape test is that you want your neck to be as big as possible, with a small waist and slim hips... play with the numbers, you'll see what I'm talking about.

The Army will train you to pass the PT test (APFT), no need to worry.

As a nurse (RN), the only recruiter you should speak with is a health care recruiter: http://www.goarmy.com/amedd/index.jsp

Good luck to you.
