Arizona State University Psych DNP, any graduates?

Published

Hi All, I am currently enrolled in a direct entry Family Nurse Practitioner program in CA. I recently have been looking at the DNP program at Arizona State University in Psychiatry as this is my area of interest and the area in which I am now completing my preceptorship. I was considering transferring out of the FNP program into their DNP psych program to pursue my interest in psych. A few questions:

1- Are there any ASU DNP graduates out there that can attest to the program's quality and where they are now in terms of career options (what are you doing with your degree?)

2- Is anyone aware of the application to admittance ratio for this program (I cannot find anything on this)?

3- Any thoughts on the advantages vs. disadvantages of continuing on the FNP track and just getting a post masters certificate in psych instead of transferring into the DNP program?

I know the program I am in now is an excellent program and I enjoy both the faculty and my classmates but really want the psych emphasis...just dont want to pursue this avenue only to find I left an excellent program for a mediocre program even if it is in my area of interest...I can always get the post master's cert if this program is not going to get me where I want to be.

Thanks!

I've heard ASU was a good school but that's all I know about it. But, if you're in a good program and happy with doing FNP and can do a psych post-masters program, that would certainly be a good combo even if you just did psych when you finished.

Thanks Zenman, I am pretty much sold on the psych DNP, just want to make sure the program is a reputable program. Do you actually know someone who has graduated from the psych DNP program, or just the school in general? I appreciate your response! :loveya:

Just the school in general. Don't know anyone there.

Specializes in ER, ICU.

I am actually looking into the same program. I have a friend who is in ASU's womens health NP program and she has only good things to say about the school and the program. ASU has a great reputation in nurse education and everyone I know that has gone through the program has enjoyed it and spoken highly of their instructors. I hope this helps, it's a great field to go into!

Thank you so much for your reply! What is your background if I may ask? I am in a Direct Entry FNP program and my BA is in psychology...

I'm a semester away from getting my license and a year after that to get my BSN through ASU. I have talked to an advisor and so far have been impressed with everything I've seen. ASU has the only Psych NP program in the state and I'm lucky that I live so close to the campus. If you have any other questions let me know!
