Hey guys,
I am thinking about relocating to Arizona (specifically the Scottsdale/Phoenix) area after graduation and I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the job market is like out there? Typical starting salary for a new grad CRNA? Good hospitals, as well as hospitals to avoid? What about all the political crap, like supervision requirements? I looked on gaswork and didn't find too much!!
Thanks!! :)

I live in Scottsdale and I can do some research on the CRNA situation. As far as nursing in general, the sky's the limit!! There are a great deal of hospitals in the area, and communting is no problem. The cost of living is very reasonable, so finding a job that pays enough shouldn't be hard. I'd start my search at BannerHealth.com. It is the owner of Banner Good Samaritan - a large teaching hospital - and the site should have some good information. Tuscon is only two hours away, and this is where the School of Medicine is located. Check them out at Arizona.edu. Anyway, good luck in your search!

right now phoenix is very limited for crna's. there are only a few hospitals that employ them to actually perform anesthesia. Banner, which is a good company, does not employ crna's to do anything but babysit epidurals that the mda's put in. that's it. it's really sad because that is where i'm from and want to go back too when i'm done. there are a couple of hospitals where you can actually use most of your skills at but as you can imagine the jobs are limited because it is such a great place to live. the hope from the people there is that with the new school opening up and the population boom that the hospitals will begin using crna's more, but only time will tell.

Contrary to what is being said on the board about the job availability there are plenty of jobs. I am a student at Midwestern (the school that opened a program last year). The ideal jobs are at Maricopa County, VA, and Phoenix Indian Medical. These locations offer full scope of practice. I am from CA and can say that yes, AZ is an MDA dominated state, however things are changing. Look at Gaswork.com and you can see for yourself the oppertunities.

Glad to hear there are opportunities....dh and I have that on our list of places to check out once I'm done with school! though things can change by 2007! Sounds far away, but I'm sure it will speed right by!
Just curious why Midwestern would open a program if there are limited opportunities. Where do you do your clinicals at?
I did look on Gaswork, and there were only 3 postings for Arizona, as opposed to about 30 for Pennsylvania!!
I guess I'm getting ahead of myself, I'm only a 1st year SRNA, just trying to think ahead about where I want to live. Are CRNA salaries in the Phoenix area comparable with those in Philly? I heard the cost of living is similar.
