Hello everyone! I am pretty new here, just returning to school to get my BSN, hopefully. I have four prereq classes still, and I haven't even been accepted in the nursing program yet, so I still have a way to go.
Anyway, I am very interested in working in the labor and delivery, maternity area possibly. It seems to me that this area might be very hard to get into. Are there certain areas of nursing that seem to be more competitive, or harder to get into because of the "popularity" of that area?
Like I said, I am just starting this whole thing, so my interests will probably change anyway! Thanks everyone!

You know~ I'm still a student, but I see a definite trend toward L&D. Seems everyone wants to go there.
I love geriatrics, however. It'll be easy to get into a position for my wants....
Good Luck to you whatever you may choose!

about half my class wants to go into l&d. my theory on it is that many womens only personal experience with nurses was when they had their children. hopefully that turned out well. i think some will change their minds as they go through other rotations.
good luck in whatever you decide, as far as competition, i'm sure it is cyclic and you may just have to wait for an opening, but i will probably have to do the same thing to get into the or.
