Hello everyone,
I am a nursing student in an ADN program. It's my second semester.
I was going through reading threads about being miserable in nursing school (it's stupid, not a big deal) and I came across one thread where a nursing student stated that he didn't understand why nurse's keep their job when they absolutely hate it and a whole argument ensued about how ignorant and stupid nursing students are and how nurses have a really tough job (which they do.)
I really love nursing, very much, and I admire nurses (even the cranky ones who are having bad days) because they do the most difficult job I've ever seen. I was really discouraged by the people posting stating that students don't get anything and just **** up nurse's days and add a lot more work on top of everything else they have to deal with. I've always tried to be helpful and stay out of the way. I've made mistakes and I've tried to make up for them. I just wanted to know if all nurses see students this way and if you have any advice on how I can REALLY help my nurse with her patients.
Lastly, most nurses act like they were never students. It's not secret that being a student nurse is not easy and you're usually in the way and cause more problems than you do help. I don't understand the animosity towards students. Maybe I will when I'm a nurse and graduate in a year.

I'm always nice and give them report in case they missed it when they got there. I take the time to explain things if they need it. I work nights, so I'm wanting to leave when the day time clinical gets there, but I'll help out to get the day rolling. But some students....yes they're in the way and yes they do act like they have no sense. Then you have the ones who think they wrote the book on everything because they watched enough House or ER, etc. Some students are awesome and cool to talk to and explain things to. I've only been a nurse about a year, and I'm back in grad school to get my MSN in education. But simply put, not everyone needs to be there. Don't put too much faith into those threads either, you have to remember a LOT of people are dramatic. That, and if they didn't get their way, they whine about it and make it sound like no one else should do what they attempted.
