Ours are in the very front of the infirmary. They have cameras so that direct observation by the infirmary officer is possible. Normally they contain inmates on suicide precautions - although on occasion we have put inmates with serious medical conditions in them due to the proximity to the nurse station.

we have 3 iso cells located in the back of the infirmary next to the ward. there are cameras to document everything. we put anyone who is suicidal to those that are contaqious. and sometimes security will use the iso cells to isolate any inmate they feel is a treat to security.
It sounds like nurses and security can observe the patient constantly. Can the patient also see out of his room to what is going on in the infirmary? Do they have a call button to summon nursing or security for any reason?

We have what we called medical units (which would be our observation cells) it is located next to our offices. One side is for males and other for females. We put those that are sick, or detoxing, or are a high risk pregnanacy, surgeries, suicides, etc. Each unit has a CO and if there is a problem we are summons by the walkie talkie.

Ours are directly across from the desk and we have cameras that can observe each room. If it's a suicide watch, then we have another inmate that watches and documents every 30 minutes.
My last night of work, we had a catatonic schizophrenic in one and a paranoid schizophrenic in another.
