Are nurses high in demand in California?

Published

Would it be hard for a new BSN grad to find a job at a hospital especially here in California? I wouldn't mind relocating to a different state, but I'd prefer to stay in California. And how long do RN-MSN programs usually take? I would like to become a Nurse Practitioner in the future. Are NP's in demand as well? I don't want to spend money for a nursing education and end up being having a hard time getting an RN position for a long time.

I don't think it matters WHERE you live. For every advertised nursing opening, there are 250 applicants who are just as qualified as YOU are. I've talked with nurses from Kalamazoo to Kentucky to Cape Cod - nobody is hiring. Even multi-experienced nurses are having trouble finding work....sometimes they cannot even get an interview. I see no evidence of any kind of "nursing shortage" anywhere. If there were, indeed, a nursing shortage, nobody would be having any difficulty securing their dream position, because nurses could call the shots. It's not like 35 years ago when you would have an interview with the nurse recruiter at the hospital....and walk out the same day with your ID badge. All of that has changed.
