Are NPs staff or providers?

I work in a private practice outpatient clinic where the owner is an MD and assured me that in his practice, NPs are providers (mid level) yet his office manager goes around and announces to the MAs and technicians that no it's not true, I am staff as she calls it. She's been doing this for the last two years. sometimes, I make suggestions on how to make the office more efficient and when that happens, I am met with a face palm (figuratively). The vibe that I'm getting is that as an NP, I only see patients anything else doesn't concern me but I beg to differ. It does concern me. When things aren't running smoothly in the clinic, my work and patient care is affected. i am beginning to wonder if there are other clinics or healthcare settings that have more delineated roles for mid level providers because it seems like this current workplace doesn't appreciate or maybe they just don't what to do with a mid level provider. I'm a quite frustrated right now because I put so much effort in my work and I just want to do a good job.

This is an ego issue, she as the manager feels she is above you. The problem is your role needs to delineated by the MD. You are a money generator and she makes sure that the billing gets done, but she can't bill unless you work. Your very important to his practice, he needs to sit down and have a discussion with the manager, unless he doesn't value your work. Maybe then, it's time to move on, this will impact his practice and revenue.

Had a big fight with him yesterday over my bonus. He finally relented and agreed to give it to me. I just wish I didn't have to pull tooth and nail to be respected. I agree that he as the MD/owner have to sit down and have a long discussion with the manager's ego but It shouldn't have to be that way. as most of u have said, I'm a money maker and I deserve respect and I shouldn't have to start a fight for that. I'm still leaving the practice though. Started applying in other clinics. I have one more question and this may sound really ignorant and naive but here goes: are there NPs here who feel (and can give examples) that they are well-respected in their workplace? I mean I just want to know that it's not like this everywhere nor all the time.

I would try to disengage from it all. When you interview play up your strengths and all you bring to the new place. When you find a place you like, tell them you do not want to tell your boss you are looking. It is possible they would accept colleagues as references. The respect part , I will let others answer. I do locum tenens and people thank me for my work all the time.
