APU ELM Summer 2019

Published

Hey all, just wondering who else plans on applying to this upcoming cycle since the deadline is coming up. I actually applied to the spring term, interviewed, but did not get accepted. Hopefully it works out this time :)

@Pma92 hello, congrats on completing the program! Did u like the program? R u working now? R u continuing the masters? Which masters did u choose? I would love some insight on the program. Was It super hard? Did u work? Costs? Thank u in advance.

@Mynameissammy the program was good, alittle unorganized but that's how it is everywhere. They are good about listening to you when you have an issue. I personally didn't think it was hard. The first semester was scary but that's because I wasn't sure how it was going to be. I didn't work while attending and the cost I believe is 730 per unit. (Don't quote me). I am working right now and I continued with graduate studies after completing the pre license. I'm thinking of geriatric NP at the moment. Hope that helped.

@Pma92 so if u go for that’s specific NP does It mean u can’t work in other units as an NP, like pediatrics or family? I’m confused on their Masters programs.

@mynameissammy pediatric

is from infant to 26 I believe, geriatrics is 11 to death and family is very broad. I'm not sure what the parameters are. You have time to decided. You need to take elective and core classes before you decided which route you want.

You also have do many different options too. Education, CNS etc

hiiii everyone!! I was wondering if anyone knows some of the questions they ask during the ELM interview???? i'm freaking out. my interview is this coming friday!!!

The main stand outs for me personally were why do I want to be an NP, what field do I want to go into and why. They wanted me to open up about my life and they really appreciate a heart for mission work and volunteer work. Underseved communities. And they like a strong demonstration that you are resolute in your plan to stick out the entire program for a solid goal of being a nurse practioner and not to bail out after the BSN. They want commitment to the program. I think they asked why I chose them too. Hope that helps a bit.

Which master r u choosing to do?

I am doing the FNP but I figured out that it is 27 extra credit hours to double certify for Psych, so if they will allow it and I can fund it I would like to go that route. I guess after getting into the program a bit I will know if that option still sounds appealing.

thank you for answering my question!! so basically what I got from this is they ask very generic questions and the interview is meant more to be conversational so they can get to know me on a personal level. oh & this is for the spring 2020 term at the monrovia campus!

I applied around January! The first couple semesters are in Monrovia and the last one is in Azusa!
